Last year I discovered a patch of blackberries surrounding the slough at the end of my family's road, and I made it a habit to go and pick a colander full on my evening walks to watch the sunset from the fields. Although this year's summer schedule put me in California earlier than usual, I still managed to fill one colander full of berries before departing, and this jam is the result of that small, precious harvest.

Made with foraged blackberries and glorious, perfectly ripe yellow peaches from the Davis Farmer's Market. Blackberries seeds add texture, nutmeg makes the whole reminiscent of the very best summer pies.
